Dementia Family Dog
Newly launched Service !
Dementia Family Dog is a new education-based service. Through a series of 3 monthly online workshops we aim to provide and signpost appropriate and reliable sources of information for families living with dementia, who are considering getting - or already have - their own pet dog. These will be supported with ‘live’ interactive video sessions with the Dementia Dog team.
Alongside this, we will offer webinars for professionals in the canine industry - such as dog rescues, dog trainers, vets and groomers - to share our insights of how dogs can benefit people living with dementia. This includes considerations and opportunities for how professionals can support families with dementia and their own pet dog, and our ambition to collaboratively build a dementia-aware UK community within the professional canine industry.
Please note: Our pilot family workshops running in 2021 will be available for families living in Scotland only.
This service does not provide practical dog training classes. However, we do advise on training approaches and signpost to reliable sources of dog trainers.
This service does not train pet dogs to become assistance dogs.
